Description
An Asia Pagoda clay relief, handmade in silver and gold, depicting a multi-tiered temple complex viewed from above, rooflines, eaves and architectural layers radiating outward across an oval freeform slab.
The irregular oval shape sets this piece apart from the rest of the series, the pagoda’s structure following the natural curve of the clay rather than being contained by a square edge. Gold catches across the raised roof tiers and upper architecture, silver receding into the shadowed joins and lower detail, the two finishes giving the temple a sense of height and atmosphere across a compact surface. At 15x11cm it suits a shelf, mantle or desk without requiring fixings.
In Japanese and broader East Asian tradition, the pagoda marks the meeting point between earth and sky, its tiered form representing the stages of spiritual ascent. Seen from above, as here, that hierarchy collapses into pattern.
An original handmade clay sculpture, one of a kind, 15x11cm.
