Description
A Ghost Eyes clay demon mask, handmade in white, depicting a face consumed by hollow-eyed forms, clustered protrusions covering the surface in layered organic mass.
There is no single focal point — the eyes multiply across the mask, some pushed forward, some receding, the whole surface in restless asymmetrical movement. The white finish is deliberately flat, removing colour contrast and forcing the eye to read pure form and shadow, an effect that shifts significantly under directional light as the depth of each protrusion becomes more pronounced. At 17x12cm it displays well rested against a surface or hung on a wall without requiring permanent fixings.
In yokai tradition, spirits associated with sight and watching take many forms, the multiplication of eyes a recurring motif for entities that see beyond the ordinary world. This piece sits in that territory without resolving into any single figure, the identity of what is watching left deliberately open.
