Description
A Moon Gate clay relief, handmade in grey, depicting a seated figure framed by the circular opening of a traditional Japanese marumado window.
The composition is calm and inward-facing, the figure rendered in soft relief against a textured interior space, latticed screens and garden foliage pressing in from beyond the arch. The cool grey finish suits the stillness of the scene, giving the piece the quality of a worn stone carving. At 20x20cm it displays well on a shelf or ledge without requiring fixings.
In Japanese architecture and garden design, the marumado or moon gate represents enlightenment and wholeness, its circular form drawing the eye through to the world beyond. This piece captures the threshold between interior stillness and the shifting nature outside.
An original handmade clay sculpture, one of a kind, 20x20cm.
Material: Air-dry clay, sealed with Liquitex Matte Medium Dimensions: 20 x 20 x 1.5cm Care: Keep dry. Avoid direct sunlight and temperature extremes. Decorative only.
