Description
An Oni King clay demon mask, handmade in copper, depicting the horned demon king in full face, features heavily deformed and eroded, horn protrusions rising from the brow.
The surface is deliberately raw throughout — tool marks, fractures and clay inconsistencies are integral to the work rather than incidental, producing strong shadow and tonal variation under directional light. The copper finish sits across a deeply worked surface, shifting from warm to near-black in the recessed eye sockets, cheeks and jaw. It displays well hung on a wall or rested against a surface without requiring permanent fixings.
In Japanese mythology, the Oni is a demon of immense physical power, a force of punishment and chaos that guards the boundary between the human world and the supernatural. The Oni King sits at the apex of that hierarchy, ancient and undefeated.
An original handmade clay sculpture, one of a kind.
