Description
An Oni Yokai clay relief, handmade in natural grey, depicting the demon in full figure, horns arching wide, body armoured and coiled with a dense mane of hair pressing out to the slab’s edges.
The composition has real movement to it, the figure twisting upward through the frame, layered relief giving depth to the armour plating, horn curves and facial detail. Hand-painted shadow work picks out the incised lines throughout, giving the natural grey clay a brooding, worn quality. At 20x20cm it displays well on a shelf or ledge without requiring fixings.
In Japanese mythology, the Oni is a demon of immense physical power, a force of chaos and retribution that sits at the boundary between the human world and the supernatural. This piece captures the full theatrical weight of that tradition.
An original handmade clay sculpture, one of a kind, 20x20cm.
