Description
A Pagoda Peak clay relief, handmade in silver and pink, depicting the pagoda from close range, tiered rooflines and carved eaves filling the slab at an angle, the structure pressing beyond the frame on all sides.
The composition gives no sky, no mountain, no distance — just architecture, layer upon layer of overhanging roof, timber beam and window detail worked across the compact surface. The silver and pink finish sits softly across the relief, giving the aged stonework an unexpected warmth and separating this piece clearly from the cooler grey and copper architectural works in the series. At 10x10cm it suits a desk, narrow shelf or window ledge without requiring fixings.
In Japanese tradition, the pagoda represents the ascent toward enlightenment, each tier marking a stage in the journey from the earthly to the divine. This piece puts the viewer inside that ascent rather than observing it from below.
An original handmade clay sculpture, one of a kind, 10x10cm.
