Description
A Shaman Yokai clay spirit mask, handmade in white, depicting a totemic shamanic form unlike any conventional mask structure, the upper surface crowded with bulbous eye-like protrusions and organic appendages radiating outward.
The piece is fully three-dimensional rather than flat-faced, built outward in multiple directions with hand-sculpted relief forms covering every surface. Tool marks, tonal variation and surface texture shift visibly under different lighting conditions, the white finish amplifying that play of light and shadow across the complex form. It displays well rested against a surface or wall without requiring permanent fixings. Dimensions approximately 16 x 12 x 8cm.
In Japanese shamanic and folkloric tradition, the shaman figure acts as intermediary between the human world and the spirit realm, their forms often depicted as hybrid, multi-sensory beings bristling with the apparatus of spiritual perception. This piece takes that idea into sculpture.
An original handmade clay sculpture, one of a kind, approximately 16 x 12 x 8cm.
