Description

This GILDED KANJI handmade clay coin features a high-contrast metallic gold and charcoal finish. The piece has been heavily weathered to create a “burnt gold” aesthetic, where the lustrous gold pigment is trapped within the deep relief of the stamp, while the raised surfaces are darkened by a soot-like charcoal patina.

The obverse displays a central Japanese hanko stamp featuring sharp, geometric characters, surrounded by eight radiating floral segments. On the reverse, the surface maintains a raw, pitted character and carries the hand-engraved artist mark cut directly into the darkened material.
