Description

Five skulls pressed into raw terracotta clay and finished with a dark iridescent scatter – the OSSIAN RING handmade clay coin fills its entire front face with interlocked skull forms, radially arranged and deeply relieved.

Each of the five skulls is individually modelled: eye sockets, brow ridge and jaw are clearly defined, the forms pressing against one another with no open ground between them. The dark iridescent finish sits across the raised surfaces as a thin, shifting layer – green, violet and pink catching at different angles against the terracotta beneath. The reverse opens up completely: raw terracotta ground with iridescent glitter scattered unevenly across the surface, and the hand-engraved artist mark pressed centrally using a Japanese stamp – the abstract glyph forms a contrast to the figurative density of the front.
