THIN ORBIT NINE Coin [TON T01] – Handmade Clay, Terracotta, Limited Edition, 27mm

Description

Pressed in Terracotta, the THIN ORBIT NINE handmade clay coin is built around a shallow circular depression with a compact stamp relief at its centre, the surrounding clay field darkened heavily with natural deposits that consume most of the visible surface.

The front ring is narrower and less dramatic than a full crater – more a channel than a pit – with the small stamp sitting in a darkened hollow at its base, its character forms just legible against the shadowed ground. The outer field is where this piece draws most of its character: dark clay deposits cover the terracotta in irregular continental shapes, the warm red-brown breaking through only at the highest points of the surface. The reverse takes this further – terracotta and dark deposit compete almost equally across the entire face, the Japanese artist mark emerging from the dark ground in broken relief, its forms partially obscured by the natural surface variation surrounding it.
