Description
A Zashiki-warashi clay relief, handmade in gold and grey, depicting the spirit clambering from a traditional tansu chest.
The figure bursts forward in high relief, wide-eyed and grinning, sharp claws gripping the chest’s edge as it spills into the room. The dual gold and grey finish creates contrast across the layered depth of the piece, picking out the wood grain of the tansu and the creature’s unsettling expression. At 20x20cm it displays well on a shelf or ledge without requiring fixings.
In Japanese folklore, the Zashiki-warashi is a protective child spirit said to bring wealth and luck to well-kept homes. This piece takes a more chaotic reading of that myth, the spirit’s grin and claws hinting at the unpredictable nature of fortune.
An original handmade clay sculpture, one of a kind, 20x20cm.
Material: Air-dry clay, sealed with Liquitex Matte Medium Dimensions: 20 x 20 x 1.5cm Care: Keep dry. Avoid direct sunlight and temperature extremes. Decorative only.
