Description

This yorishiro handmade clay spirit vessel is a sealed disc object in a black blue copper finish, with a single Abyss Collection coin permanently enclosed inside its shell. Electric blue runs the raised ridges while copper glows from the recessed channels, all set against a near-black clay ground.

The surface is raw and unsealed, left to carry its own texture rather than smoothed flat. Blue pigment catches the high ridges and edges where the clay was worked hardest, while copper and terracotta tones sit deeper in the pressed channels, giving the shell a worn, mineral-vein character. The disc is mounted on a tapered raw clay base, with a length of cotton rope looped through the crown. As a handmade sculpture it stands on its own as a freestanding display piece, suited to a shelf, desk, or a quiet corner where the colour shift can be read up close. Each vessel is one of a kind.

A yorishiro, in the collection’s telling, is an object a wandering spirit settles into rather than a body it wears. This one is cast as a keeper of small lost things, the kind that slips behind a drawer and is never found. It surfaces only in the hour before a house wakes, drawn to thresholds and doorways, and the coin sealed at its core is said to be the last thing it kept. The blue veining is where its attention runs; the copper beneath is what it guards.

A sealed object from the Abyss Collection, made under the OWEN maker’s mark.
